DEANNA DOHERTY, LCSW

FOUNDER AND PSYCHOTHERAPIST AT SHIFTING TIDES

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS IN NEW YORK AND CONNECTICUT

I provide individual therapy for adults navigating the complexities of trauma, grief, and major life transitions. Many of my clients are high-achieving women, caregivers, or those who have experienced deep loss, struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, or the weight of generational patterns. In our work together, we’ll create a safe, supportive space where you can explore your experiences without judgment. Using evidence-based approaches, we’ll uncover and heal the underlying wounds that may be keeping you stuck—so you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and a deeper connection to yourself. I also offer group therapy, coaching and consulting.

I am a licensed psychotherapist in private practice providing individual psychotherapy to adults across the life span in the state of New York. I strive to be the therapist I desperately needed during my own experiences with grief and trauma.  I am a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist. I also practice Internal Family Systems Therapy, as well as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in my work. I received my Bachelors in Social Work from Sacred Heart University, and went on to receive my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University.

Before opening my own practice I worked as a psychotherapist and Director of Clinical Trainings in a trauma therapy practice, training clinicians in the practice of trauma therapy. I also worked for Every Body Therapy based in NYC before opening my own practice. I have worked extensively with childhood trauma, abuse, grief, sexual addictions/substance use disorders, adopted children and their families, anxiety and perfectionism.

I founded Shifting Tides Psychotherapy with the vision of providing compassionate, evidence based treatment to those who are looking to find themselves again, while also breaking cycles of trauma. Having a therapist who truly cares about you and supports you can make a huge difference when you feel lost or alone. Thanks to my own positive experiences with therapy when I really needed it myself, I always wanted to be able to provide the same opportunity to others. It can be hard to find a therapist who really hears you. My goal in my career has always been to help others feel heard.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS IN NEW YORK AND CONNECTICUT

Are you struggling with shame, distress, or anxiety related to your sexuality or porn use? Do you feel stuck in cycles of secrecy, guilt, or self-judgment, unsure of how to navigate your desires in a way that aligns with your values and well-being? I’m Kelsey, a trauma-informed, sex-positive therapist, and I specialize in helping individuals and couples work through concerns around sexual distress, intimacy challenges, and Out-of-Control Sexual Behavior (OCSB).

I work with individuals—particularly men—who experience anxiety, guilt, or internal conflict around their sexual behaviors. My approach is non-pathologizing, focusing on self-exploration rather than shame. Whether you're struggling with compulsive patterns, navigating sexual self-acceptance, or working toward a healthier relationship with intimacy, I offer a space for understanding, healing, and change.

I also provide couples therapy for those facing disconnection, mismatched desire, trust issues, or sexual dissatisfaction in their relationships. I help partners communicate openly about intimacy concerns, rebuild connection, and develop a shared vision of a fulfilling sex life.

With training from the Sexual Health Alliance in sex therapy, as well as experience in EMDR, IFS, EFT, and Gottman, I focus on how your past experiences shape your current perceptions of yourself and your relationships. Therapy with me is a collaborative process—we will work together to craft a treatment plan that aligns with your goals, values, and emotional needs.

I know that reaching out for help with sexual concerns can feel overwhelming. My goal is to create a safe, empathetic, and judgment-free space where you can explore your experiences and move toward a more confident, fulfilling relationship with yourself and others. You don’t have to navigate this alone—I look forward to speaking with you.
